Bavaria trip first 2 weeks of September 2027

Hello, I just joined this forum and value the expert advice/recommendations provided to fellow travelers. I was stationed in Germany 3 times, Augsburg (my favorite), Landstuhl and Bremerhaven. I was last stationed there in 1992 (I am sure things have changed) and my wish was to show my wife where I spent 4 years of my life (Bavaria). I plan on staying in Munich for 14 days in an AIRBNB 5 mins from the Hauptbahnhof. I was planning on spending the first 2 days in Munich to get adjusted then venturing out via group tours or train travel. I have tentatively planned on visiting Garmisch (spent much time there already), Salzburg (been there also), Chiemsee (never been there, Neuschwanstein/Linderhof (been to both), Lake Bodensee (never been there), Nuremburg (saw Fleetwood mac there, Bamberg(never been there), Rothenburg of der (never been there), Bertchtesgaden (been to the Eagles nest also skied Austria from there never went to Konigssee, and last Regensburg, Any thoughts or suggestions. Thank YOu so much really excited about this trip!

You would be wise to get a Deutschland Ticket, which will cover any/all regional train, bus, tram and subway trips for the month of September:

I plan on staying in Munich for 14 days in an AIRBNB 5 mins from the Hauptbahnhof.

Before you make that move... I would consider transferring some nights to NUREMBERG so that you are able to visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Bamberg with greater ease. These two destinations are too far for day trips from your Munich base, but easy from Nuremberg.

In addition to Garmisch, have a look at Mittenwald, which could be its own day trip from Munich if you wish to do the Karwendelbahn lift, a little hiking, the Geisterklamm Gorge, and to explore the town itself.

Agree with the previous poster, don't stay in Munich the entire 2 weeks.

By the way, we lived in Augsburg from 87-91 and loved it. We returned last summer for two nights prior to our Danube cruise. There is very little of the US military facilities left in Augsburg. Our office was in Reese Kaserne and only 3-4 buildings remain. The building where the High School was located is still there. Also, Sheridan Kaserne has few remaining buildings.

The city hasn't changed much, except the trees have grown taller.

We purchased a Bayern (Bavaria) Pass, that was very cheap and we took regional trains. They were crowded and not on time like back when we lived there.

Consider renting a car and doing The Romantic Road.

The first visitors were friends and families of the American soldiers stationed in the large bases in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg but the idea of the trail from Würzburg to Füssen soon became wildly popular.

It's not too hard to see the reason for the popularity - despite the modern roots of the idea, the tour combines the historic cities of Würzburg and Augsburg with the three medieval walled towns of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen, and then finishes off with the tourist highlights of Neuschwanstein Castle and the Alps.

First Thank You to BOTH of you for your replies I will definitely take you suggestions to heart. I was stationed at the Hospital on Flak Kaserne from 1976 through 1981 loved it! We use to play tackle football and bowling on Reese we would hop the back fence and walk to Reese and the PX good memories and I believe catch the streetcar to downtown.
