Bavaria regional train

Three of us will be flying into Munich and then taking the train to Fussen. Two days later we will take the train to Passau to catch a river boat. This is all new to me. Can you confirm I understand correctly.
We can buy a regional pass online for 3 people for 39 euros and use it to get from Munich HBF to Fussen. A second pass can get us from Fussen to Passau. We do not have to go at any specific time as long as its after 9am. We don't need to exchange this pass for an actual ticket, we just get the ticket activated at the station. We will also need to buy a city ticket to get from Munich airport to Munich HBF.
It seems too simple so I'm afraid I am wrong.
Thanks

You don't have to "activate" the ticket. Normally, you buy it out of a vending machine. Write the names of all the riders on the back of the ticket in ink and you are good to go. Just board the train(s). when a ticket inspector comes by, show him(her) the ticket and be prepared to show your passports. In my experience they don't ask for ID, unless they suspect you are some kind of scamster. When you buy the ticket, make sure it is for the day you want to use it, because you will have the option of buying tickets for future dates. Vending machines all have English language option when you press on the British flag icon.

If you buy from a ticket window, you will be charged an additional 2 EUR service fee.

And you do not need to buy an extra city ticket to get to Hbf. The Bayern ticket is valid on the S-Bahn from the airport, as long as it is after 9 am on a week day. The ticket is also valid for U-Bahns, trams, city and local buses in Bavaria.

(1) If you go directly from the airport to Füssen, you can do this with a single Bayern Ticket (after 9am on weekdays, any time on weekends). If you go next day, you need an airport-city day ticket and a Bayern-Ticket for the trip to Füssen.
(2) With the Bayern-Ticket you can of course also travel from Füssen to Passau, but be prepared that this takes at least four and a half hours, often even longer.
(3) The Bayern-Ticket is not a "pass" (only Americans insist on calling it the "Bayern-Pass"), but a normal day ticket with unlimited travel within Bavaria, so there is nothing to exchange. And if you enjoy to do so, you could also use it to travel from Füssen via Aschaffenburg to Passau (which I wouldn't do) ;)

Edit:

be prepared to show your passports

This has never happened to me in the almost 25 years the BT exists

I think it is worth underlining that the Bayern ticket can only be used on regional trains, not long distance trains.

I think it is worth underlining that the Bayern ticket can only be used on registrations, not long distance trains.

Do you have "registration" trains in Austria? How enviable, we don't have anything like that. ;) Between Füssen and Passau you can't take anything else than our oldfashioned local trains (unless you want to throw your money out the window and get on the occasional ICE in Regensburg or Plattling with no gain in time at all: the 9:05 connection by local trains takes 4:32, the 10:05 one, which involves the ICE from Regensburg to Passau, takes 5:21).

Don’t buy online in advance. just buy it when you arrive.
