Bavaria for Five Nights

Next September/October we will be returning to Germany. Our plan is for four or five nights in Stuttgart, two nights in a town in the Rhineland, and are thinking about choosing a Bavarian city for the last four of five nights.

Since I am the researcher, I am trying to determine which city might be best. I have looked briefly at Augsburg and Wurzburg but am concerned that four or five nights would be too much time for one of them. Miltenberg looks like a lovely town, but again, I don't think its worth multiple days. Especially since we aren't museum people....more of sightseeing, exploring the city, and getting caught up in the culture.

Any suggestions of a different town to look at?

We have already been to Munich (with a daytrip to Zugspitze), Bamberg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg ob de Tauber, and Frankfurt. We weren't that crazy about Frankfurt and Bamberg, but loved all of the others.

Do you want to divide up your time in more than one location, or stay put? You've hit most of the locations that would demand 4 or 5 nights already.

I like Miltenberg, but mainly because of the hiking in the mountains above the town, which are rich in Roman ruins. The town is also quite pretty, but doesn't take long to see.

Other options: Coburg, mainly for it's huge castle. The Altstadt is quite scenic as well.

Burghausen: small but nice Altstadt, and one of the largest castle complexes in Europe.

Landshut: Very scenic town, and a nice castle to boot (am I repeating myself?)

Oberstdorf: One of the most stunning Alpine locales in the country. Easy daytrips to Lindau, Neuschwanstein, Ottobeuren (huge Baroque abbey) and Memmingen (walled old town).

Berchtesgaden: Near Salzburg and Chiemsee>

4-5 nights in either Würzburg or Augsburg would be just right if you also do day trips or half-day trips. Both towns are train hubs.

Places you've never been near Würzburg:
IPHOFEN (see photos)
SOMMERHAUSEN, OCHSENFURT, MARKTBREIT (all near each other and within 30 minutes of W'burg)
BAD WINDSHEIM (about 1 hour by train)
B. W., Döbler Brewery
B. W., Franconian open-land museum (amazing UNmuseum-like experience)

Feasible day trips near Augsburg... 1.) Harburg and Nördlingen, 2.) Landsberg am Lech, 3.) Weißenburg

Thank you for the suggestions...all of them look wonderful so I'll need to do more research to determine which ones I'd rather visit this time.

I love the look of castles from the outside, but due to minor handicaps, visiting them isn't usually feasible.

I didn't see any mention of English on the website, so I am guessing that all of the brewery tours are in German?
