Bamberg-Nurnberg -Munich 2 nights in Nurenberg or Munich

We will be taking a Viking River Cruise from Budapest to Regensberg in Sept. Afterwards we will be spending:
2 nights in Bamberg
1 night in Nurnberg
2 nights in Munich
The plan now is to arrive in Nurnberg late morning, drop our bags at the hotel and see the sites. The next day we'll either take a tour to the Nazi sites or see them on our own (can't decide if the tour is worth it or not) any advice on this? We will take a late afternoon train to Munich where we'll spend the evening and the entire next day before flying home the following morning.
I can't decide if we should spend 2 nights in Nuremberg (never been there before) rather than just one, or... 2 nights in Munich (we've spent time in Munich before)

Thank you for the advice!

I'd spend 2 nights in Nuremberg if you've never been there. If you want to pass on the guided tour get a copy of the book "Then & Now - Nuremberg". It will let you see what the place looked like in 1944. It's a good way to find places most tours won't show you.

If you have been to Munich before, do two nights in Nuremberg. There is a lot to do and see there.

What you seem to be asking is whether, on Day 4 of 5 after the cruise, you should stay into the evening in Nuremberg for dinner and a night's sleep, or whether you should travel to Munich for dinner and a night's sleep.

Honestly, I don't think it matters much. Either way, you really don't gain much sightseeing time in one place or the other. I suppose if you leave Nuremberg in the pm on Day 4, you will need to check out in the morning and will have no access to your room in the afternoon, and you might need to fetch your bags from your hotel's front desk just prior to catching your train to Munich. Leave on the morning of Day 5 and it's more straightforward.

I don't find the "Nazi" stuff in Nuremberg all that interesting myself. Your time in Nuremberg is too short IMHO; Nuremberg has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years of course, and there is a large number of great sightseeing options that have nothing at all to do with that brief period when Nazis were trying to rule the planet.
