Bamberg - ?

Making a third stop in Bamberg in early June and we're starting our planning. We got the Germany 2020 and were surprised that aside from being on the maps there is no mention of Bamberg in the book (I looked in the index). We've done the Dom and the Altes Rathaus and are trying to plan an afternoon and evening. Any suggestions? We know that E.T.A. Hoffman, the writer of the story of the Nutcracker, lived there. Is there a museum about him or anything else related to him? Also. we enjoy the public art. Is there a guide to the artworks and their locations?

Thanks

My guess is that if you've already been to Bamberg twice, you know more about it already than 99% of the posters here. My own experience there is limited to a few hours strolling around.

If you haven't ventured further and you'll have a car, the adjacent region of Franconian Switzerland is worth a drive-through.

I also really like nearby Coburg. The castle here is one of my favorites in Europe.

If you have been to the Dom, I am sure that you noticed the Reiter (knight of Bamberg) which seems a strange work to have in a church. I liked the tomb of Henry II and Cunegunda. I believe that he was a priest that when the office of Emperor fell to him and he married a nun, Cunegunda. Of more interest to me was that their tomb was carved by Riemanschneider.

I walked up to St. Michael's for views back at the Bamberg. It was interesting, not spectacular.

We were there during the Christmas Market Season. The Krippen (Christ in the Manger) tour had some interesting stops of statues in small squares. I can not find a reference at this time.

Bamberg seemed more into marketing its beer than its history IMHO. I was surprised.

have you been to Würzburg? It is close by and very interesting / pretty; if you've been to Bamberg before you might welcome the change?

The ceiling of St. Michael's in Bamberg made this my favorite church visit in 19 trips to Europe. It is stunning, IMHO.
