Baden-Baden to Gengenbach bus

Hello, the recommendations here have convinced me to do a day trip from Baden-Baden to Gengenbach…does anyone know if there is regular bus service between the two locations? Thank you!

Bus, no. But there is direct train service that gets you there in about 40 minutes. Looks like they run every two hours. Check Deutsche Bahn for details. Keep in mind the Baden-Baden train station is about three miles outside of the main town, so you'll likely ride one of the bus lines back and forth to that first (unless you are staying by the train station instead of downtown). (Edited for clarity, per @Nigel's comment!)

In Gengenbach the train station is very nearly in the centre of town. It is in Baden Baden that the station is a bus ride from the centre.

Since both towns are in the same Bundesland, Baden-Württemberg, if you have a KONUS card the trip will be fully covered as it is a regional train or combination of trains, including the local bus..

If you use this link, you can calculate when the trains come. https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en Make sure you click the button that says Local Transport Only, You can get a direct train to Gengenbach with no stops that will take about 30+ minutes.

As Nigel said, the train station is near the town center but there is a short walk to get into town. There is a sign at the station with a large map that you can use, or just use Google maps. It's a pleasant walk and will take you past lots of shops and restaurant to the main plaza. If you have a chance, there is a beautiful church called St. Marien that is worth a visit. And if you head behind the nearby Benedictine Abbey on Klosterstrasse, you will find a walled-in herb garden that is a lovely and peaceful place to enjoy. I loved the herb garden.

I would also recommend walking along a charming street called Engelgasse, off Hauptstrasse. I read about it in Lonely Planet, which said, "The best way to discover Gengenbach’s historical centre is with a serendipitous mooch through its narrow backstreets, such as the gently curving Engelgasse, off Hauptstrasse, lined with listed half-timbered, shuttered houses draped in vines and bedecked with scarlet geraniums in summer." It's a good description.

Some corrections on then KONUS Card details are required.

  • With Baden-Baden as your travel base you will NOT be eligible for the free KONUS card; neither is this card for sale. It is available only from innkeepers in participating towns, and B-B does not participate.

  • If you instead book your stay in GENGENBACH, a town which does participate, or any other participating town, you get the KONUS card free of charge, and you can use it to travel to any of the destinations that lie within the red border on the flyer with map that I have linked to below. Baden-Baden is an eligible destination for travel. This area comprises only part of Baden-Württemberg - not the entire state.

The flyer also lists all the participating towns where a booking will get you the KONUS card.

If he stays in Baden-Baden he will not get a KONUS Card. Easy train trip, starting with bus ride to the B-B train station. Visit the Narren Museum - Wed., Fri., Sat., Sun. april to Octobet. Marketplace is a short walk from the train station

You can go directly from Leopoldplatz in Baden-Baden to Gengenbach by bus, but it will take you about 3 times as long as it would take you to take the bus to the Baden-Baden Bahnhof and go by train to Gengenbach via Offenburg. So, why?
