Bad Munstereifel

My wife and I are traveling to Bad Munstereifel area in late August. Great grandfather emigrated from that area as a young boy. Has anyone traveled there? Any tips? This town is near Cologne and Bonn.

We've spent some time in the area around the Eifel. What I remember is that it was pretty easy to drive in this area but it can take a lot of time if you must rely on secondary and rural roads a lot, allow extra time. To the north of the Eifel national park we visited Koln, Bonn and Aachen. To the east of the Eifel we spent time at Maria Laach (a monastary worth a half day trip) and Koblenz. To the south we did trips along the Mosel River. And even more to the south we went to Bitburg and Trier. We did most of these excursions by car crisscrossing the Eifel during our month long stay. Have a great time exploring your family's roots!

Thanks very much, Mona. My great grandmother's parents emigrated from Luxembourg. Did you dip into Luxembourg City from Trier?

On a much earlier trip we spent more time between France and Germany and visited Trier and Luxembourg. If you travel in that direction I recommend that you try to see the WW1 sites around Verdun. We specifically stayed in Trier to make a day trip to Verdun.

I was in Bad M'eifel for an afternoon a couple of years ago. It's a delightful little town with an old town wall, some attractive buildings and a castle - I enjoyed walking around the place very much. Not a lot to DO there but very scenic. I enjoyed a brew at the "Brauhaus" there in town and returned to the Rhine for overnight.
