B&B/hotels in Munich close to public transportation

After the Best of Eastern Europe tour I am planning to visit Munich for a couple of days. Could anyone recommend me a place to stay preferably a B&B or small hotel not to far from public transportation? Many thanks in advance for your help.

We stayed at Pension Lindner right next to Marienplatz. The subway is 5 minutes away and the main train station is less than 10 minutes. Great location, good basic B and B.

It's difficult not to be near public transportation in Munich, particularly if you stay near the center of town. The system is so extensive. There are several big train stations plus the S-Bahn (commuter rail) running east/west through town and spreading out into the suburbs. Beyond that there is a system of subways (U-Bahn), streetcars, and buses. I haven't yet stayed at Lindner, but it seems like a good choice and very close to the center. There are several more nearby, Am Viktualienmarkt and Blauer Bock, for example. Just outside the old city, near the Hauptbahnhof, Royal has some good recommendation, although some consider the neighborhood "seedy".

Not a B&B and perhaps not cozy, but certainly centrally located: Hotel Mercure Munich Altstadt.

My German friends also give high marks to the German 'Motel One' chain that has multiple Munich locations.

A bit different than what usually gets recommended here, but they seem to be regarded as generally clean and reliable and are less likely to be overrun by North American tourists than the stuff that shows up in the usual guidebooks.

I second the comments about Motel One. New hotels, really good value for money as well. The rooms are compact but do the job. Whilst they are typically not right in the centre of town they are close to transport and walkable as well. In Munich I've stayed at the one on Landsbeger. About a fifteen minute walk to HBF, although there is an S-bahn within five minutes walk as well, and trams running along the street directly to the centre.

We were recently in Munchen. We stayed in 4you Hostel. We had a private room, with a bathroom. The hostel included breakfast. Every day, you got a coupon for one free beer or coffee. The 4you hostel is about 100 yds from the Hauptbahnhof.

My usual hotel choice in Munich is the Hotel Royal which is very close to the Munich Hbf. The neighbourhood outside the hotel is a bit "colourful" but that doesn't bother me in the least. The hotel is very comfortable, the staff are wonderfully helpful and they serve a great breakfast. As I recall, there's no A/C but they will provide a Fan if needed.

My other choice in Munich is Hotel Uhland which is also a wonderful place to stay, and one of my "gold standard" hotels for breakfasts in Europe. However, it's about a 15 minute walk from the Hbf. Not really a big deal if you don't mind the walk.
