avoid Rhine Tal Total - Car free field day (6/26/2016)?

we had planned to train to Bingen for a KD boat ride up to St Goar + castle explore on Sunday 6/26 and go to Heidelberg on 6/27. Sunday is car free day. Should we avoid this day and go to Heidelberg instead and then do the Rhine on Monday with less crowds?

Tal Total - Car free field day (6/26/2016)
Once a year, cyclists, skaters, rollerbladers and pedestrians take over the main roads on the right and the left banks of the Rhine between Lahnstein and Rüdesheim, resp. Bingen and Koblenz-Stolzenfels.
For one day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the World Heritage Site "Upper Central Rhine Valley" can be experienced without cars for a length of about 60km

It's only a serious problem for drivers, who cannot use the river roads. I've used the trains during Tal Total and during Happy Mosel. The bikers don't use the cruise boats - only the ferry crossing boats. There are more riders and some bikes on the trains, and of course thousands of bikers on the roads, but you can likely find a seat on the train if you use it, and you can see Rheinfels Castle and St. Goar easily enough, and besides, it's a fun event to witness. A lot of the bikers are little kids and families just having a good time.

This event has now been cancelled due to flooding, landslides and fallen trees. The trains on the left side of the Rhine are not running between Bingen and Boppard, so you will need to either take the substitute buses or train on the right side or ride the ship round trip.
