Average wait time for shuttle at THOSE castles..

I started a new topic about some questions about our time going to the THOSE castles inside of carrying on with my older thread. I'm about to purchase the tickets, but the guessing for entry times is actually becoming a bit of a stressor.. all because Rick's Pocket Book on the castles says the wait times for shuttles can be 1 - 1.5 hrs.
We'll be there early October, so the big summer rush is done, and actually the website shows no availability at all starting two weeks after our date. We will absolutely need to take the shuttles up the hills. So, from your experience, how long did you have to wait your turn to get on the shuttle, and which month did you go?

If I had to buy right now, based on taking a Bayern Ticket train on a weekday from Munich to Fussen, and catching the bus in - Rick's Book says it arrives 12:13 or so.
My plan was to book Hohenschwangau for 1:40pm (first English one after bus arrives), then Neushwanstein for either 4:05pm (audioguide) or 4:35pm (guided tour). Since we'll be going to Mary's Bridge before N'Stein Castle, do you think there is enough leeway for the 4:05 or 4:35 time to wait in line for shuttle, go up hill, go on bridge, and then walk down hill to castle entrance?

Thanks!

Hi - I noticed you haven't received any replies to your inquiry. I am also planning to go to the castles (in late June) and have purchased tickets for 1:40 and 4:35, in the same order as yours. Based on what I've read so far that should give you enough time to ride the shuttle up and visit Mariensbrucke before coming down to the castle. Even if the bus isn't very full, I figured that it will need to leave because there will be folks at the top waiting for a ride down. Once up at the top, I plan to set a time limit on how long I can spend at the bridge and when I need to head to the castle with time to spare (maybe 40 min prior) for my timed entry.
Good luck to you!

thanks for the reply..
what I was really trying to find out is during that time of year, what is an average waiting time to catch the actual shuttle up to the castles.. as in, do I expect the lineup to take about an hour after joining the line? I know my times are good and generous for not missing my tour window, but I just hope a long lineup doesn't make it not-so-generous of a gap.. :)

We were there in early June. (just got back) We walked to Hohenschwangau. It's a little steep, but not too long. 15 minutes. We waited about 20 minutes for a bus, only because the line for a ticket was long. However, you can also pay the driver directly. There was a line to cross Mary's bridge, but it moved along. We had a 12:05 ticket for Hohenschwangua and a 3:00 ticket for Neuschwanstein. We had enough time in between to get lunch and a beer. The tours don't take long really. There is no shuttle to Hohenschwangau. We walked down from Neuschwanstein because that seemed easier to hiking back to the shuttle stop.

That's the long answer. The short answer is if you book the one ticket for 1:40 and the other for any time after 4 you should be fine. Al

Margaret

what does AI mean at the end of the update post? The first bit looks like you wrote it - so does the second, does the AI mean it wrote the second bit or the whole thing? Thanks

If you book Hohenschwangau for 1:40, your tour there will be done by 2 or 2:10 the latest. We did the tour of Hohenschwangau Dec. 2024. Didn’t bother with the Neuschwanstein tour, as we’d done it years earlier.

Yes, thank you, I waited too long and now have a big break (1:45?/4:35). 🤷🏼‍♂️ that’s ok, it’s a holiday ☺️
