Are the ATMs located inside banks in Berlin open at night? Usually they are in a foyer of the bank but I don't know if my debit card will access the door to get into the foyer. We get into Berlin around 6pm.
How are you arriving? Should be ATM's at the airport and train station.
Our tour is picking us up at the airport and I don't know if there will be time. They will take us to our hotel and I thought we could get money from an ATM near the hotel.
I know most people here recommend using an ATM inside the bank, but I'm ok with using the ones they have outside just make sure it's actually a bank ATM. I think they are just as safe and I used them all the time. They are available 24hr. Just be aware of your surroundings and it's nice if there's more than one of you.
Our experience with ATMs located in a little lobby by the front door of the bank is that they are open 24 hours. Disclaimer - I have never tried using one at midnight. You use your debit card to unlock the door and the area is always well lit. So I think you would be find with an early evening usage.
I mostly use outdoor ATMs, but on a few occasions I've used an ATM in a bank lobby in the evening. Never had a problem with my card unlocking the door.
I've used a Deutsche Bank "outdoor" ATM on the Kurfurstendam over multiple years. Since it's attached to a Deutsche Bank, I don't feel any fear of hacking.
I've used a lot of ATMs in Germany, and only a couple of times were they inside the bank building, where I had to use my card to get in. Once was after hours; once was on a Sunday. Never a problem.
If the machines are in a little foyer, then any card that works in the machines will open the door. Sometimes you don't need a card, just a button to press. Putting them in a foyer means the machines don't have to be rain-proof. And requiring a card to get in the door stops homeless people sleeping in there.
Hi,
The "ATMs located inside banks in Berlin" are open at night, even at midnight. I've used one such bank even at midnight or so near Savignyplatz on Kantstrasse in Berlin. No problems. You don't need any plastic to access the foyer of a bank. The door is shut but not locked. Which area are you staying in Berlin? Street or closest U- S-Bahn stop?
