Asambasilika Altenmarkt outside Passau

We are 65ish and am going to Passau and other towns in Bavaria this fall. Traveling by rail, we don't want to try to go to any site that isn't easily reachable by train followed by city bus. We would love to see the Asambasilika, but I can't seem to find any details about it like the hours that it is open, or which bus to take to get there. Hiking a couple of km after a train ride is in the rear view mirror age-wise for us. Does anyone know how easy it is to get there once you are at the Osterhofen bahnhof?

We also want to go to Mariahilf kirche in Passau but we can't manage 200 steps. I know there is a bus that goes close by, k-1, but can't figure out precisely how close it gets. Anyone know?

I do get frustrated in the planning stages because I see these incredible places, but without a car and not knowing the ridiculous details of just how much walking is involved, I feel like I'm butting into a wall. We typically travel for a month, so walking km after km each day adds up fast. Many thanks.

From Osterhofen train station, it's an 8-minute walk to Asambasilika. It is a small village and there is no bus between the train station and the Basilica. The DB App shows that you can take a regional train from Passau to Osterhofen - travel time is 24 minutes.
Typically, such churches are open every day from morning to evening, but you can check with them to be sure: https://www.asambasilika.de/kontakt.html

But I can also imagine that you might even be able to book tours from Passau. If in doubt, always ask the Passau Tourist Office what's possible. Same for Mariahilfkirche.

You can actually only reach Mariahilfkirche Passau on foot or by car. It's also quite a steep climb. Therefore, I recommend taking a taxi from Passau's Old Town or train station. The nearly 400-year-old Mariahilfstiege has a fascinating history and numerous pilgrims climb its 321 steps to the church every year. I understand that it's difficult for you, but it's an important part of the pilgrimage. That's probably why it's not so easy to get there.

And yes, without a car, it's sometimes difficult or even impossible if you don't want to or can't walk much. But there's always the option of taking a taxi or renting a car if the bus or train doesn't stop right at the doorstep.

BTW, the best of the Asam churches in the Passau area is the (newly renovated) monastery church in Aldersbach (pictures here). It's about a 50 minute bus ride from Passau (check the DB app for details). Next to the church is a nice Bräustüberl.
