Art in Germany

Hi,

I will be attending Germany in August and September.

I wanted to explore the art scene. Modern, Contemporary. I love art also wanted to take a oil painting class because I paint.
I wanted to see what unique things Germany does with it's art. Besides museums, I would love to hang with artist and see how they work.

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

Danke.

In addition to fine venues in Berlin and Munich , a few other cities with great Art museums - Dresden ( The Albertinum , in particular ) Leipzig ,Nurenberg ,and Frankfurt ( The Staedel ) have massive collections that are well worth seeing. Also , do you have a specific interest in certain styles , media , and historical periods ?

If you are in Munich do not miss the outstanding collection at the Lenbachhaus. It has one of the best collections of German expressionist, post expressionist paintings and sculpture under one roof. They also have additional programs. This is one of my all time favorite museums. for seeing the Blauen Reiter artists and their contemporaries.

“The Lenbachhaus collects, preserves, researches and presents 19th-century Munich art, the art of the Blue Rider and New Objectivity, and above all international contemporary art. Collection and exhibition activities are coordinated and complement each other. ”

In Munich, besides the Lehnbachhaus you might be interested in the Brandhorst Museum. It's in the Maxvorstadt quarter near the Pinakotheken.
