Arrival in Berlin

We are arriving at Tegal airport. Our hotel is near Gesundbrunnen station. Can someone please tell me what train or bus we need to take. Thanks much....

TXL bus to Beusselstrasse station, then an S-bahn to Gesundbrunnen station, 3rd stop.

Sam's route is probably best. There is no rail service to Tegel airport, only buses.

Hi,

If you rather change at major stations in Berlin, you can reach Berlin Gesundbrunnen this way: Take the TXL bus from Tegel to Hauptbahnhof, (Central Station), the S-Bahn 75 (track 17 or 18?) eastward to Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse, then transfer to the S-1 to Gesundbrunnen. I am well familiar with Berlin Hbf and Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse, (the drawback is change twice). Gesundbrunnen is the station you pass through going to north east Germany, such as towns in Mecklenburg.

WOW! You guys are great...I truly appreciate your help.

One more question for now. Since we're flying out of Tegel (at 08:55), I want to find a hotel close by. My thought is to get a hotel near Hauptbanhof (actually A & O Hauptbanhof) since we have to be at the airport at least 2 hrs before the flight. It seems like a good plan to me, but I'd appreciate a reality check just in case I'm missing something.

Since you are staying near Gesundbrunnen, why change? There are S-bahns every few minutes to Beusselstrasse where you get the bus.

We're staying at Gesundbrunnen when we arrive from the States because we are going to take a train to Szczecin. We will spend 2 wks traveling before we return to Berlin. We have 2 days there before we return home. We want to explore Berlin (and my wife likes to shop), but I'm concerned about getting to Tegel on time since we have a morning flight. We don't travel much, so I want to err on the side of caution.

Hi,

It makes good sense to stay at Berlin Gesundbrunnen if you're heading to the mouth of the Oder. The train starts at Hauptbahnhof and stops at Gesundbrunnen. Normally, you might have to change at Angermünde for trains to Szczecin. I would not recommend A&O Hauptbahnhof as first choice for that sort of accommodation but rather the Meininger Hotel just 2 mins from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to your right as you exit.

A taxi between Tegel and central Berlin is only about €25-30. For an early departure, that's what I'd do - particularly with two or more people. I'd strongly consider it on arrival as well.

I really want to thank everyone who answered my questions. As I said, we don't travel much so I'm obsessing about doing everything right and efficient. I'm impressed by both the knowledge and willingness to share that I've experienced. Each reply has helped me put the pieces together so that I now feel comfortable that things will go smoothly in Berlin.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
