apartment rental in Berlin

Hi all:

We usually use vrbo for rental and have had no issues all over the world, but for whatever reason, none of the people in Berlin seem to want to respond to vrbo requests! And they all have plenty of positive, recent reviews, so I am not sure what the issue is....

Does anyone know of any Berlin-specific apartment rental agencies? I really don't want to be stuck in a hotel room with my 2 teen boys for 4 nights!

Thanks! :)

We had a great experience tow summers ago with Berlin Habitat apartment rentals, berlinhabitat.com. But -I just went to their website to confirm this for you and found the following annotation; "IMPORTANT Berlin outlawed renting apartments for short term stays. Therefore we can only rent for monthly periods."

Seems this may be the problem you are running in to.

If you aren't able to rent an apartment because of the new rental limitations, I'd like encourage you to book 2 hotel rooms. Berlin can have some of the most inexpensive hotels in nice locations. We still like the western area near the Zoo, Kadewe and bus 100. Last summer there were some good classic hotels (Ambassador) and modern air conditioned chains (Ibis) in this neighborhood.

As of June 2016 airbnb in Berlin is illegal, banned...good. I don't know about rental agencies.

I don't know what your budget is or when you are going but you can try searching on booking.com. Put in 4 adults and 1 room and then check 'apartments' under accommodation type. I saw several aparthotels and commercial apartment operators that do rent apartments in Berlin. I think maybe the new law is regarding individual apartment/home owners from renting short term so these are not affected. Worth a try.

yes nancy, thank you! I actually just did that and rented a place at an apartment hotel....

It was a couple hundred more than getting a vrbo... but if that's the only choice, I will take it. We got great deals in our other cities so my average still isn't too bad!

thanks everyone, this was super helpful!

People can still rent out rooms in their homes. My understanding is that the space has to be owner-occupied else the owner is subject to huge fines.
