Im travelling with my 2 22 year old grand daughters. They will enjoy the Christmas Markets but in addition to that I'm looking for some Fun things to do, activities, restaurants, etc. Thank you.
In Dec. 2022 I took our girls (in their 20's) to Munich and Salzburg for a Christmas Market trip. In Munich, we didn't really do much else, just wandering and playing everything by ear. There were a few really unique Christmas Markets so that was nice to have some variety. Will you/can you make it to Salzburg by chance? It is a short train ride away. The reason I ask if that is an option is because one of the days we had there was so much fun. We did a Sound of Music tour in the morning and then a cooking class in the afternoon. So just an idea I thought I would throw out there:)
If they haven't found info on the Tollwood Winterfestival, here it is: https://www.tollwood.de/en/tollwood-winterfestival/. It is a more modern take on the Christmas market concept aimed at younger folks.
They may want to take a look at some YouTube videos on the Near from Home channel, created by a young couple living in Munich. https://www.youtube.com/@NearFromHome
Go Dirndl shopping - a lot to giggle and experience.
If you're up around the University just look at the posters, they'll have suggestions for current activities. The Ubahn stations are good for this too. Just down the street from the Rathaus is Schneider & Sohn, which has been a student hang out for decades.
Hi
We were in Munich last Christmas (the week before and through Dec 28) with our two twenty-something daughters and their men. In addition to a variety of Christmas markets, the gurls and guys enjoyed: shopping (vintage, second-hand and weekend flea markets “Flohmarkt”), beer halls in and around the Altstadt and some other parts of the city, brisk morning walks in and around the Englischer Garten, the Geschwister Scholl Museum at the university (Nazi resistance group; museum is just north of Ludwigskirche and is a very worthwhile way to spend 45 minutes), going out to eat each night at a different local restaurant that features Bavarian specialties (e.g., Altes Hackerhaus, Andechser am Dom, Donisl, Augustiner Klosterwirt, or Hofbräukeller-not to be confused with the Hofbräuhaus-which is fine for drinking and conviviality but I wouldn’t waste a big dinner out opportunity there), a day trip to Kloster Andechs, and the Residenz.
Feel free to follow up with me if you’d like more specifics. For dinners our, reservations are always a good idea.
