We will need transportation with the tour leaving from Munich week of Sept 8. Anyone have a good tour company to recommend?
Check with Dark History Tours. Our tour from Munich to Dachau with Taff Simon was moving, thought-provoking and extremely well researched. https://dark-history.eu/
You could take the train from Munich to Dachau on your own, then take a taxi to the camp. If I remember correctly, the train station is only a couple miles from the former concentration camp. Once at the camp, everything is pretty well marked and labeled, so a guide isn’t needed.
We took a Radius tour from the main train station. The guide was extremely good and we learned a lot on the way to and from Dachau, as well as during the time we're there.
It is very easy to do on your own. Bus takes you from train. We spent more time than expected--3 or 4 hours.
Inga,
Although my reply may be a bit late, I would also recommend Radius Tours. Their office is in the Munich rail station and I found the guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history and provided an interesting tour. Their tours travel to the site by rail, and as others mentioned this provides an opportunity for the guide to provide some background before arrival at Dachau.
Hi, my partner and I just returned from Munich and went to Dachau on our own. We bought a Munich XXL group train pass which covers the train to Dachau and then the bus which takes you directly to the memorial. It was so easy...just follow the crowds. Also, we purchase the audio tour and found it to be so worthwhile and informative. It's a very moving experience and one that no one should miss. Enjoy your time in Munich and the area!
