Antiques in Munich

Hello,

Will be in Munich mid-December. Can anybody suggest vintage/antique stores or any areas where these are concentrated? Bonus points for places with vintage Christmas ornaments and other vintage holiday decor. (Already going to some of the Christmas markets but understand vintage is not really found there.) Not talking fancy, high-end antiques.

Thanks!

There are a number of antique and thrift shops in the University district north of the Altstadt. But you probably can find what you're looking for in one of the Oxfam shops also. The thing is they are already putting up this years decorations, so the best time to buy may have passed. There have been a lot of Christmas items in the last few flohmarkt I've hit.

Tara:
Please post here the vintage shops that you visit in Munich. I’ll be in Munich Christmas week, and I’ve scoped out online some options.
Thanks to those who make (or have made) suggestions. Keep them coming!

Tdanielhansen2016, can you share what you've scoped out. I'll try to post what I find between when I get back and then leave again for Christmas!

KGC, thanks for Oxfam suggestion. How would I find flohmarkts?

Tara
Sorry that it’s taken me so long to respond to you. But here are the antique/vintage stores I’m hoping to visit in Munich after Christmas:
ANTIQUE/VINTAGE
Antique Market Munich at Brunhamstrasse 19A
Haben Will at Fraunhoferstrasse 41
Floh und Antiquitätenmarkt at Auf den Schrederwiesen 22

SECONDHAND STORES
Cat With A Hat at Baaderstrasse 53
Capricorn Store at Reichenbachstrasse 30
Oxfam at Frauhoferstrasse 6

There are several other Oxfam stores throughout Munich. Also, when it comes to antique stores, I am not interested in high-end antique stores that would sell Baroque etc. items to royalty and multimillionaires. So I am sure there are those types of antique stores in the Schwabing neighborhood or elsewhere, but I have not researched those.
Let me know (post here) if you find any stores you like

Happy hunting!

Hallo! Thanks for this post - I am looking for exactly the same thing (between all the Christmas markets) for Dec 18-24. I appreciate your list of vintage shops, too. In any of your travels, have you found places that have good vintage paper (postcards, advertising)? Maybe bookstores are the best for this, but I will also update this list with anything I find. The reviews of https://www.antikmarkt-muc.de/ to be very good.

I can’t speak for great places to find paper and ephemera in Munich as I haven’t arrived there yet to look. But in other Bavarian cities, many coin and stamp (Münzen und Briefmarken) Shops have lots of post cards, letters, brochures, ads, greeting cards, and ephemera. I scored some wonderful early 20th century Zeppelin post cards just this week in Regensburg. So keep an eye out for coin and stamp shops.

Dear Munich vintage-shopping fans:
We had a blast yesterday at Floh und Antiquitätenmarkt at Auf den Schrederwiesen 22. You’ll need to take Munich‘s public transportation to get there but it’s well worth it. If you buy several items, you can negotiate better prices. Lots of fun and affordable vintage items, housewares, Tracht, records, books, art, religious iconography, old souvenirs, toys, furniture, etc. We bought a great vintage Samsonite suitcase while there to carry our purchases back home.

There are several Flohmarkt in Munich, like Flohmarkt in München-Riem for one. Usually open on the weekends tho they do different on which days they are open. Lots of junk but you never know what you might find.
