Has anyone been to Annafest in Forchheim?
In my Erlangen years, I always preferred the Annafest to the Erlangen Bergkirchweih. It's quieter (but by no means lonely!), and for my taste there's better beer from different breweries in 10 different beer cellars.
Since it is part of Bavaria, do I wear my trachten?
Forchheim is in Franconia, so a true Bavarian tracht is just as foreign as, say, a Black Forest one, but of course just as welcome; it's not a means of "blending in" though.
If you go to Houston, do you wear your 10 gallon hat, fringed leather vest, chaps, and cowboy boots?
But wearing Tracht there would likely be a great source of amusement for the locals.
CJean,
So I guess you know Houston's history and culture. Houston was never a cow town and the costume you describe would be totally out of place there as you seem to suggest.
I am surprised and rather disappointed that someone from one of the world's most culturally diverse--and accepting--cities would take the time to berate someone with genuine questions regarding local customs. Bavaria is a large and diverse state. I don't think it unreasonable to ask if a traditional outfit appropriate at a festival held in one part of that state is appropriate to wear in another.
BTW, the last time I saw some dressed in the cowboy outfit you articulated was in Dusseldorf. Go figure.

Thank you. I was unsure. I had a vague understanding that Franconia, though part of modern Bavaria, sees itself as someone seperate and apart from other Bavarian regions.
I'm a big fan of Kellerbier and visited Forchheim in February. The idea of getting there durring a festival and having a couple of days to enjoy the festival is appealing to me.
