Your questions have already been answered in an earlier posting:
1. Buy ticket Amsterdam-Bad Bentheim at Amsterdam Centraal (EUR 19,90)
2. Buy seat reservation for the whole trip Amsterdam-Berlin on Bahn.de (EUR 4,50 or so)
3. Get your rail pass activated, validated or whatever it is called by the conductor on the train.

But then: why a rail pass? You have been extensively shown that advance-bought point-to-point tickets are the best way to go.

Rail passes are a good value if the high extra cost is of less value to you than the ability to change plans without dealing with an additional person. In your case that is clearly the case.

I think what put you off was certain tickets only give a voucher when you cancel. Everybody is different - that's fine.

I am curious. This isn't a dig, I really want to know. Do you have the same issues when buying airline tickets? Since airline passes are pretty rare except for around-the-world itineraries, do you pay full price for airline tikets because the lower priced ones don't let you change easily?

i buy insurance for airline tickets
and have used it quite a bit in recent years

so basically my trip amsterdam-berlin is in 12 oct
fares are now running 150-200 euro for 2 people
one way first class

that is half of the price of a 3 day german rail pass
plus a bayern ticket for nurnberg -salzburg only covers slower trains
so to save time a rail pass helps
