American War Cemetary

We are planning a visit to the American War Cemetary near Hombourg, Belgium. We will be taking the train from Koln to Aachen. Has anyone visited this memorial and if so, is there a bus that goes there from Aachen? Would we need to rent a car or hire a taxi to get there?

Thank you.

I have visited the Henri Chapelle American Cemetery twice. I took a train from Aachen to Welkenraedt. If you have a relative buried at the cemetery, the Cemetery will send a car to pick you up at the train station in Welkenraedt. On my second visit, I could not get in contact with the cemetery, so I took a taxi. It is a beautiful cemetery in a very peaceful setting, surrounded by pastures.

Our experince is the same as Leon's. We asked at the train station window how to get to the cemetary. The man working there got on the phone and called a cab for us. It was Sunday and there were no busses running. The cab took us out to the cemetary and came back two hours later. We took the train back to Aachen.

If you haven't seen it already, there is a military cemetary WEB site: http://www.abmc.gov/cemetaries-memorials. You will be able to find information about each U.S. military cemetary. If you are looking for a specific grave it is possible to identify the location of that grave if you have the serviceman's name.

Thank you so much for this helpful information. We do have a family member buried at the Cemetary so we will contact them for transportation information. We were not really wanting to rent a car so it is great news that a taxi or the cemetary transportation can be arranged.
