Am I nuts ?

I am flying Lufthansa from Newark Sept. 8 to Krakow thru Munich w a 65 min connecting window, and Return from Budapest on Oct. 1st again thru Munich with a 75 min window.

I didnt think about Octoberfest. Ugh. It's a tight window under normal times. I believe I can cancel and re-book going thru Frankfurt with a 2+ hour window in each direction. Thoughts?

Munich is an efficient airport. I doubt Oktoberfest will make any difference. I would stick with that one.

I believe you will need to go through EES in Munich, so you need to take that into consideration. The last time we flew through Munich it was extremely busy. How comfortable are you with a tight connection and dealing with a possible missed flight?

On your way back through Munich you are only doing exit immigration, should be quick, and Oktoberfest crowds will not be doing that. Munich is pretty efficient, I make it through there, Amsterdam, and even CDG with an hour easy. Yes, you need to keep moving, but if they think it is a good time, then go with it.

Ty Paul. Are you saying I will be doing some check in Budapest on way to Munich?

I flew Budapest to Montenegro (not schengen) a week ago and it took 4 minutes to stamp my passport. But, No, you wont do any passport business on a Schengen flight. Very easy airport.

Munich is one of my least favorite airports, but you have your tickets, so sit back and go for the ride. It always works out. Worst case you end up on the next flight but odds are you make your connections. I have a 65 min connection in Madrid coming from the US in about 3 weeks. Maybe it works, maybe not. Life goes on.

Ty Mr E as always. As of last night, I resigned myself to going with the flow. As you say, worst case, I get on the next flight. Best case, I do an unexpected overnight in Munich. I'm a flaneur at heart anyway, especially now in retirement. Its all good.

It's a holiday! And holiday is a verb if you are in the right frame of mind. My last night on the Budva Rivera and I am dancing on the beach view table.

According to the official site, Oktoberfest this year starts on September 19, so the 10th shouldn't be a problem.

On the 1st, you'll go through outgoing passport check, emigration, but I doubt that there will be that many people leaving just before the last weekend.

The only place I can foresee a problem would be with the shuttle if you arrive at the new satellite terminal and depart from a gate in the main building.

This is probably only ancient history since it was almost 20 years ago, but in 2007 I arrived at MUC on the last Thursday of Oktoberfest, as you will be doing, and I don't recall the airport being unusually busy. In fact, even the Hbf was not that busy. It was just that the street from the Hbf to Theresienwiese was an "ant trail" of people going to the Oktoberfest grounds.

But, then, that was almost twenty years ago.

Thx Lee for the insight. Either way, it's nice to have those memories I would say.
