Alternate to hiking for Burg Eltz

Hi

So im planning to visit Burg Eltz in September
I’ll be staying in Bonn
I was wondering if there are other options to hiking to get to the castle
I know there’s a shuttle bus that operates on weekends but I’m visiting on a weekday
I was also thinking of renting a bike
Has anyone done that?
are there any bike rental options in moselkern or tries kardin
I’ve tried to google all of this but almost all sites for bike rentals or taxis are in German without an English option!

Use the Chrome browser (which should offer you the option to translate the page to English) or use Google Translate. The translation won't be perfect but it's usually good enough to understand.

It is quite hilly around so I don't know if bike would help. I would suggest taxi.

Are there any taxis in that area? I tried to google but couldn’t find any links.

Seems like my Burg Eltz plan is falling through

Are there any other recommendations easily doable from bonn?

Visit Marksburg Castle in Braubach instead. The train gets you to Braubach - then you walk up to the castle in 20-30 minutes.

"DB" is the train station on this map of Braubach; "Fußweg zur Marksburg" is the trail to the castle.

"Are there any taxis in that area?"

Taxi will be the easiest solution, but also the most expensive. If your budget will allow, that's certainly an option. However, one important point to mention - the driver's may not speak English, so you'll either need someone to arrange the trip and pickup, or you could try having the info printed in German on a small card, and show that to the driver.

This is the Taxi information on the Burg Eltz website - https://burg-eltz.de/en/planning-your-trip-to-eltz-castle/arriving-by-arriving-by/arriving-by-taxi.html .

The Taxi will drop you in the large car park, and you'll then have to use the small Shuttle van to get down the hill to the Castle (there's a small charge for that). You can also walk down and then back up to the car park, but it's a steep hill.

Yes I emailed a taxi company and it’s too expensive!

I will look into Marksburg castle instead!

Hey Russ thanks for the recommendation
So I’m leaning towards Marksburg now cuz of easier commute. I know this may sound like a silly question Do you think it would be worth it considering I’m coming from th UK and we have lots of amazing castles here too.
Also feel free to give anymore recommendations for bonn and cologne both!

I'm from a country where the only castles are in theme parks - thus I'm not the person to make such a comparison. As a UK dweller with castle experience there, you are superiorly qualified. You can read over the reviews of Marksburg that I linked to to see what others think about it and to make your own decision. I can only say that if Eltz seemed worthwhile to you, Marksburg likely will too. (That's not to say they're the same.)

UK castles are not the same as Belgium, Spain, France, German, or Italy castles. Yes, they are similar, but the construction and architecture are different. We try to visit castles in every country we visit.

Once we exited the train, we called a taxi, and it worked well. I don't remember the price, so it must not have been memorable . Our driver had enough English. There are a few small hotels/cafes in the immediate train stop area, so I expect could you go inside and ask for help with the taxi. On the way down, we caught the shuttle bus.
