I am visiting Dresden and would like to take a day trip to see albrechtsburg castle.
can someone help me how to get there?
train? bus? I believe you can take the train to Meissen. can you get a taxi to the castle?

Yes, you can take the S-Bahn train from Dresden to Meissen, which runs every half hour and takes 33 minutes. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
Google Maps indicates a 20-minute walk from Meissen train station (Bahnhof) to the castle. The castle web site also provides mentions a city bus.

. can you get a taxi to the castle? I doubt it. Although I drove myself to Meißen, so I'm not sure where the train station is... I'm pretty sure you can only reach the castle on foot. You may be able to get a taxi to the Altstadt, but you'll have to walk the last few hundred meters or so uphill.

Simply take the S1 from Dresden Hbf (main train station) to Meissen Altstadt (old town). From there you can take a minibus to the castle. But I would walk instead. It doesn't take long, and the old town is very nice.
BTW: you can also take the paddle steamer from Dresden to Meissen and return by train or ship.
