Airport transfer to Train Station in Munich and train for Salzburg.

Hello, Could somebody please guide me. Me and my 9 yrs old will be travelling from Munich airport to Salzburg. We land around 10 am.
We would like to take train to Salzburg. Do we take a cab to Train Station or are there trains from airport to train station. Also, which train station do we take the train from in Munich? Could you also please suggest the website for buying train tickets to Salzburg.

Thanks Much!

Take the next S8 S-Bahn to Munich Ostbahnhof. and catch the next regional Meridian train from there to Salzburg. Note that the S1 will show a final destination of Munich Ost, but it goes around Munich to the west and comes in at the Hbf and has to goes clear through Munich to the Ost Bahnhof. Instead take an S8, which shows a final destination of Herrsching or Weßling but gets to the station at Ost Bahnhof sooner.

No need to buy a ticket in advance. The Bayern-Ticket (25€ for you, your 9 yo is free), purchasable at that price at the airport station, will cover your travel from the airport to Salzburg (on a regional train).

Also, where do I buy ticket at the airport? Seems like, I only need one ticket if I go with the regional train.
Thank Much.

The express trains (EC or RJ) are a little faster, but more expensive. Depending on connections, they might be ½ hour faster.

You can check the schedules here.

If you go with the regional train, all you need is a Bayern-Ticket. You can buy one from the ticket automat on the platform or, for 2€ more, from a person at the ticket counter upstairs.

The fastest train is the Railjet that is nonstop. But as such, it does not stop at the Ost Bahnhof you would have to continue all the way to the Hauptbahnhof to get it, and it would cost 42 EUR from the airport
The Railjet is not any faster, it just doesn't make any stops. In your case, it may be an option because the regional train goes every hour at 55 past the hour, except there is no 11:55 train. There is an 11:28 Railjet. They go every 2 hours, so at any other time, the regional train would get there sooner. You would have to be on the S-1 at 10:33 to make that. If you can't make that train, the Bayern Ticket with the regional train from the Ostbahnhof will get you there quickest.

Sorry for asking so many questions ... my first time going there.

I already answered our question under Austria before I noticed that you have identical question under Germany where it was already answered very well. It's better not to post the same question twice because then answers to your question are not at same spot, besides people are still answering when it was already answered.

Was not sure where I should post it hence twice. I agree with you.

Thanks Again!

No, don't buy ahead. As Lee said, buy it out of a ticket vending machine or pay an extra 2 EUR to buy it at a ticket window. Trains are unreserved and don't sell out.
