air fair timing to Germany

I tried booking a flight to Germany for mid May thru kayak.com. For two consecutive days the price was under $1,000, the next day the price jumped almost $300/person. Do the online travel companies raise the price when they notice you are searching their website? If so, when is the best time to book a flight before my travel date? Should I wait for the price to come down?

The airline sites do use cookies and supposedly if you look for prices often the price may go up for you. Not sure about kayak- but I would always book airfare thru the actual airlines website.

I was watching flights to Germany for mid- May all thru August- just happened to see a price drop of about $200 and grabbed tickets then, that was a Tuesday.

If you monitor price on airline website- just clear your cookies after each session. You can also use something like sky scanner to watch for price drops- you will get notifications for any flights/routes you set an alert for.

Were the flights you were looking at on Delta by any chance? They had a Europe sale that just ended.

Besides Kayak.com, I also use flights.google.com. As flights fill up, the prices go up. Sometimes the airline will lower fares, but for the most part they just go up.

You might try flying out of Chicago- if you are willing to drive there-- you should have more options/better pricing.
Right now Air Berlin has RT $745 ORD to MUN- stopover in Berlin. That's pretty cheap!

We have 4 International airports to chose from and most always end up going out of PHL with the best prices- it is a 2 hour drive but oh well!
