Advice on charming lunch spots/stops Munich-Fussen and Fussen-Munich airport

Hi...first time to Bavaria and we are looking for recs for 2 stops. After several days in Munich, we are heading to our rental in Fussen, and are looking for a charming quick stop off for lunch on our way. Also looking for the same on our way from Fussen back to Munich airport, which may be a slightly different directions. Charming towns or lakesides that are easy access. Thank you! Julia

Andech Monastery on the way to Fussen. On the way back, the restaurant opposite Ettal Abbey or some Italian at Da Noi in Murnau, an attractive little town.

Second Andech Monastery.

It worth every inch of the climb.

Don't drink and drive.

Andech monastery sounds like a winner. lucky for my husband, I don't drink beer, so I'll be able to get us the rest of the way safely!

the restaurant opposite Ettal Abbey

That's »Ludwig der Bayer« (named not after »mad« Ludwig but after Louis IV, Holy Roman emperor in the 14th century), owned by the Ettal abbey. Nice Bräustüberl, great dark beer. 40km north of Füssen there is Schongau; well preserved medieval center. On the west side of lake Ammersee, opposite to Andechs, there is Dießen (I like the Unterbräu in the Mühlstrasse). A bit more to the west on the B17 (the direct route between Füssen and the autobahn) there is Landsberg am Lech; good traditional gasthof on the main square, old-fashioned and somewhat outmoded café on the west bank of the river Lech (Café Lauterbach, Peter-Dörfler-Weg), run by two elderly ladies who make excellent cake. A bit north of the Landsberg, in Kaltenberg, there ist the Schloss Kaltenberg Biergarten, owned by a great-grandson of the last Bavarian king Ludwig III. and relative of »mad« Ludwig.
