Advice for sights on Germany trip

We (me, husband, 6y old daughter) will be in Germany the 2nd half of June. We have family to visit in Kitzingen and will be staying in Frickenhausen am Main for 10 days. Then we will be in Berlin for our last 3 days.
I am looking for advice on sights we can day trip to from Frickenhausen. We planned to rent a car. My husband and I saw Munich, Rothenburg, Füssen and the Rhine Valley in 2009 so we are looking for other places on this trip. We also don’t think it is time to introduce our daughter to the horrors of the holocaust yet. Mostly I am looking for experiences in German culture and history.
Thanks!

Wow you've got some great choices within an hour or less drive. I'm sure your relatives will have a lot of good ideas too. A few things that come to mind for a family with a 6 year old are the openair museum just 30 minutes away, Tübingen with its river and half timbered houses and a little further away, Sigmaringen palace. If you have some warm days your relatives will be able to tell you about nearby lakes for boat rides or swimming. Enjoy your time in this area. We stayed for several weeks south of you along the Bodensee and explored up in your region.

EDIT: I looked up the wrong Frickenhausen! Let me look some more for you. We've been to a lot of little areas of Germany.

Nearby Würzburg has an impressive palace (Residenz) and the fortress Marienberg with a nice walk through vineyards.
Bamberg is rightly very popular. Just north of it is the wonderful pilgrimage church of Vierzehnheiligen.
Somewhat further away is beautiful Fulda with the pleasant hunting palace of Eichenzell just south.
These are only the places I have visited in the past. Searching on »tourism Franken« will give you undoubtedly many more suggestions.

Wrong Frickenhausen but Mona is still correct that there's an excellent open-air museum near your home base - and that you will be surrounded by several great side-trip destinations.

Bad Windsheim's Freilandmuseum

Iphofen

Frickenhausen's immediate neighborhood... Sommerhausen, Ochsenfurt, Marktbreit

Nuremberg (A fun city. Ignore the WW II stuff, most of which is well outside the main part of town.)

Old town - self-guided, or guided walk through own
Imperial Castle
Craftsmen's village
Museums
Playmobil Funpark (nearby)

Thank you all so much for the advice. This has given me some ideas to explore. I am always willing to hear any other ideas as well.
