We are coming back to Berlin on Sunday p.m. 10 / 20 . We are flying out of Berlin at 16:00 the next day 10/21. Any suggestions for accommodations for that one night would be appreciated.
BTW We are arriving in Berlin next week for the first part of our trip and staying close to Savignyplatz, I wasn't sure how far this area would be from the airport to stay there one night?
We stayed at Motel One, since its convenient to the Hauptbahnhof (1 block) when we had an evening of free time while transiting through Berlin. It was an easy walk (2 miles) from there to the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. The rooms are new, upscale, and somewhat corporate sterile. The staff was extremely helpful, though. Not much in the way of restaruants in that vicinity, except for the train station.
You did not mention the airport you will fly out from. TXL or SXF?
For both cases hotels around Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station) and Berlin Alexanderplatz are recommended. Both are stations of trains from SXF and of bus "TXL" (https://www.bvg.de/images/content/linienverlaeufe/LinienverlaufBusTXL.pdf).
Especially at Alexanderplatz be aware of pickpockets. Place with reported cases in June & July.

Savignyplatz is far from SXF and not so far from TXL. Check local transport options at www.bvg.de/en.
Thanks for the info. Tegel is the airport perhaps we'll try close to where we are staying the 1st part of our trip.
Thanks too for the heads up about the pickpockets!!
The 109 bus to Tegel goes from the Uhlandstrasse U-Bahn station on Kurfuerstendamm, about 1/4 mile south of Savignyplatz. Or take the M49 bus down Kantstrasse to Zoo' Bahnhof where both the 109 and X9 buses to Tegel go from.
@ Sam: If you recommend M49 and 109 then I suggest to take M49 to "Kaiser-Friedrich-Str. / Kantst" and 109 from there to TXL. Much shorter ;-)

Also big traffic issue for the next month at Ernst-Reuter-Platz which is avoided by that route.
Therefore it is always worth to look up best route at www.bvg.de/en
Thanks I put app in my phone too appreciate all the info.
Also Mark quick question if possible : We are going to purchase DB twin pass upon arrival, should we get at TXL or @ Zoologischer Garden station?
Nothing listed on the Tegel website, but the page at Deutsche Bahn site specifically indicates Zoologischer Garten Bahnhof.

We like a couple of inexpensive, well positioned hotels down the street from the KaDeWe and Wittenbergplatz U on Bayreuther Strasse. It is a 20 minute or less taxi ride to TXL. We’ve done this on several visits to Berlin. Hotel Ambassador classic rooms can be around 50€ for a double. The Ibis next door offers two price ranges in its steril, air conditioned rooms. There are breakfast cafes, restaurants, the U-Bahn, shopping, the zoo, bus 100, etc right around the block.
EDIT: oh no! I just checked the Sorat Hotel Ambassador prices and they have tripled and quadrupled from when we stayed there just 2 1/2 years ago. Try the Ibis next door. I looked at dates in a variety of months and the drastic increase in price holds true...there goes my FAVORITE budget hotel in Berlin.
EDIT: after drinking a cup of coffee and changing the language from German to English I now see that I was looking at the price of booking 2 rooms!!! They have still raised the price from 2 years ago but not significantly enough to knock it out of contention for my go to budget hotel and favorite comfort spot in Berlin.
Thanks I'll check it out!
Thanks Sam will get them by our pension then😊
Pension Peters by chance?
Anyway, I don't think you are under the gun to book a place for your last night right now. Maybe you'll want to see if you like the neighborhood and/or hotel before booking. You'll have 3 days to get to know Berlin, and then you will have a better idea of what you want to do. You will arrive at the Hauptbahnhof for your last night, and maybe you just need a place to stay for the night. The TXL bus goes to Tegel from Hauptbahnhof.
I would just stay at main station (Hauptbahnhof). Hotels around are 80-90 EUR for that day, e.g. Meiningen or Motel One. After check-out on 21st ask hotel to store your luggage until 2pm before taking bus TXL to airport TXL (20 mins). Otherwise in main station there are lockers and a luggage storage service on 1st floor.
May be try to register to visit Reichstag in the morning. Can be beautiful.
Thanks all!
The 109 is an easy walk from Savignyplatz, and is a very cheap yet effective way to get to TXL. Especially since you don't need to ride it at rush hour (and 10/20 is a Saturday. But check the Saturday frequency of service. http://www.bvg.de/images/content/linienverlaeufe/LinienverlaufBusX9.pdf )
Which Pension? Is it located in Savignyplatz or nearby?
yes Pension Peters
Good place and nice neighborhood with lots of reasonable restaurants. Your host, Uwe, is a great guy, and will give you his 10 minute talk on getting around, local restaurants and answer questions. He does like to be paid in cash, (3% upcharge with credit cards) but the Sparkasse ATM is across the street.
