I will be in Europe for 2 weeks in mid-May with my wife. We are arriving and leaving from Amsterdam with some time in the area at the start of the vacation. My wife and I are looking to explore Germany during the second week. Berlin will be part of the experience. I am looking for recommendations about outdoor activities (hiking, biking, kayaking) around Berlin - i.e.: make Berlin the single destination for the week, or a shorter time in Berlin and the rest in the Black Forest or another area known for hiking.
The Spreewald area east of Berlin is known for biking and boating - a flat area full of canals and small lakes.
I would spend the whole week in Berlin. Even in Berlin you will find large green areas such as Grunewald in south-west of Berlin or Köpenicker Forst / Müggelberge.
The top 11 most beautiful summer bike rides in Berlin, other biking tours and also some climbing parks.
Potsdam and area offers also a lot of outdoor activities.
Other day trips from Berlin.
If you prefer more mountain area take Harz mountains instead of Black Forest - much closer and very attractive, e.g. Goslar old town or steam train up to top of mount Brocken.
Thanks so much for the responses-- much appreciated!!!
