a trip from lindau to lienz.

We plan to make a journey to the Grossglockne Alpine road and then continue to Salzburg and from there to Bamberg . Our starting and finishing point will be Karlsruhe in Germany. WE thought of staying overnight in Lindau , the second night in Lienz, the third night in Salzburg and the fourth night in Bamberg.

Would you recommend this trip or would you suggest any alterations? WE plan to start the trip on the 19th of October. Furthermore, have you any suggestions as to the journey from Lindau to Lienz , preferable scenic routes.

Thanking you in advance,
Dorith

So you want to do the Grossglockner in south - north direction. The fastest access is via Innsbruck - Brenner (Italy) - Brixen / Bressanone - Innichen / St. Candido to Lienz. I would stay overnight not in Lienz but in one of the villages at the begin of the Glockenerstrasse, say Döllach / Großkirchheim or Heiligenblut. There are many nice intermediate stops between Lindau and Lienz, e.g. Montafon valley (a slight detour from the Lindau - Innsbruck motorway), St. Anton am Arlberg, Innsbruck, Neustift abbey, Brixen .. You should check, however, before departure whether the Grossglocknerstrasse is open. It closes normally in mid November but with global bad weather situations it might close earlier.
