A full day in Stuttgart

We have never been to Stuttgart but I’m interested in spending a day there. It’s silly, but since I was a child, I enjoyed saying Stuttgart because my parent’s friend was from Stuttgart! :-)

So if you’ve been there, please share the things you enjoyed most.

The Mercedes-Benz museum is very good. I'm not into cars at all, but I really enjoyed it. It's more like a history of transportation. We also went across town to Porsche, which I didn't enjoy nearly as much.

We spent a few days there and we loved it. We’re into cars so we did Mercedes and Porsche - if you only do one, Mercedes is the way to go.

In addition, the city itself has a nice pedestrian core, a few good museums, and then this cool paternoster in the city hall. It’s an open-style elevator and it was just incredibly interesting to see.

I go to Stuttgart a couple times a year. It's not a good city to drive through, there are a huge number of traffic cameras, but it's got the Porsche Museum, the Mercedes Benz Museum, a great Zoo, and a world class museum full of dinosaurs. The Planetarium is pretty good. It really depends on what you're interested in.

I lived there for a few weeks in 2021; work related. I was very close to Stuttgart Mitte area & train station, which is also near the main square. Can recommend taking a few S or U bahn stops away to e.g. walking in the Weinsteige area/neighborhood, great views from there. Also can easily access the large park assoiated with the zoo area. Finally for a very quick nature experience, get to the close by 'Falscheklinge' park. The name is interesting, it means 'false blade'. Several nice trails and streams there very close to the city.

I really liked Stuttgart. The Staatsgalerie is a fantastic art museum. It houses the oil painting versions of Edward Burne-Jones's Perseus series. I made a trip to Stuttgart just to see those paintings.

If you're there when the weather is nice, there are many lovely biergartens with great food (this is spätzle country and it's delicious). Schellenturm Stuttgart is a historic and lovely restaurant. I don't drink beer but discovered the great apple juice-elderflower combination served in many places.
