9 nights Bavaria

hello! We are visiting Bavaria and already have our stays booked for Ga-Pa, Stegen farm stay in Black Forest and 4 nights Munich. would love any feedback in our plans!

1) Land in Munich 9 AM, driving to Ga-Pa. Plan to do a stop at Neuschwanstein castle. ( no tickets available so will just see the outside)

2) two nights in Ga-Pa, plan to do Zugspitze and the gorge on our main day

3 ) drive to Stegen farm stay, via Lake Constance. debated adding in Basel for French/Swiss stop and it adds an hour.

4) staying 3 nights in Stegen. would love to do a winery near or in Alsace during our stay , otherwise just some easy hikes and visit small Black forest villages. would love suggestions here!

5) drive to Munich and fastest way again is via Lake Constance.

6) 4 nights in Munich, one oktoberfest day and one day trip to Salzburg.

We’ll drop car off when we arrive Munich and do train day trip to Salzburg.

thank you in advance for any suggestions or any amazing things to see or do!

We could not get tickets online for Neuschwanstein Castle so went just to see the outside. But when we got there we were able to get tickets. This was two years ago in October and they were doing renovation inside. I didn't think going inside for what we could see at the time was worth it.

Day trips from Munich to Salzburg and back require roughly 3.5 hours on the train if the trains are running properly (which is always a big question.) Salzburg isn't all that easy to see even with one full day. There will also be substantial in-the-car time for the journeys to Stegen (well outside Bavaria!) and to the Alsace and then back along the same route once again, as you explained it.

Do you have a list of musts for Salzburg?

If not, you might reconsider this day trip. An extra day/night, either in GaPa (for places like Mittenwald?? Schloß Linderhof??) or in the Alsace or Black Forest could be very useful. Your 3 nights in Stegen will basically leave only 2 days for activities in these two areas... not much at all considering all there is to see and do.

If you decide to keep Salzburg, well, an alternative would be to book one night there for whatever time you might need the following day. The extra time comes at the cost of a little less time in Munich and an extra Bayern Ticket for departure from Salzburg.

The Black Forest Open-Air Museum is a great place to introduce yourselves to the local history and culture:

We did a Viator skip the line tour of the castle as no tickets were available. We thought it was very well worth it as there was a lot of history explained to us prior to the tour.

One of our favorite days was spent at the alpine coaster in Oberramagau - we rode the lift to the top and did the coaster down the mountain, then we hiked to the top and rode the coaster down.

Near Salzburg, Hellburn Palace and the trick fountains were beautiful.

Honestly, you're not missing anything by skipping the tour of Neuschwanstein. Hohenschwangau is a much better experience indoors.
