9 euro ticket Berlin-Bamberg

Hi All,

I'm looking at train tickets to go between Berlin and Bamberg for September 24th (not planning to buy yet, just want to budget things) and i see that the price is €49 per person instead of €9, am I missing something? is this route not covered by the regional train?

Also, I'm stopping over in Bamberg for just one night and leaving towards Nuremberg the day after, is there a way to get a ticket that would cover both? or would they have to be separate tickets? Thanks in advanced.

The 9€ ticket promotion ends on August 31. However, the distance between Berlin and Bamberg would be much too far to cover sensibly with regional trains anyway.

You can specify a stopover time (you will have to experiment a bit to get the best result), but since the Bamberg-Nuremberg route is in the VGN area and you might need a ticket for local transport in Nuremberg anyway, it might be cheaper to buy a VGN day ticket for the second day.

Yes, by cleverly choosing your departure times for a ticket from Berlin to Nuremberg and specifying a stopover in Bamberg for 18 hours. I see you could buy a ticket for today like this:
Sept 24, iCE 705 dep Berlin Hbf 11:37 arr Bamberg 14:15, Sept 25, RE 49 dep Bamberg 8:38 arr Nuremberg 9:19
Supersparpreis 46,90 €

And sla019 suggestion for a VGN day ticket is worth investigating. That way, you can use all the local transport in Nuremberg for the rest of the day. You could get a 7:37 departure from Berlin to Bamberg for 35.90 EUR Supersparpreis. A VGN Tages Ticket Plus would cover all public transportation in the region for the whole weekend for 21.50 EUR. So that would cover all day in Bamberg, train Sunday to Nuremberg and public transport in Nuremberg for the rest of the day Sunday.

Thank you so much. I will try the stop over. Any ideas how far in advanced is a good idea to buy?

Prices will only go up from what they are now, so if you are sure of this, buy now to save. If your plans are still in flux, buy as soon as your plans are solid. If you go with the VGN ticket, you can buy that when you get to Bamberg as price does not change.

I went to Germany in early May of this year and starting buying train tickets in January. Every time I saw them afterward, the price went up, never down. As Sam said, buy them as soon as you feasibly can.
