Nice. Trying to squeeze in Bamberg makes for a long train ride back to Munich for the flight. FTR, I tried to squeeze in Bamberg when going to Rothenberg for my July trip but decided against it.

You should probably connect GP and Mittenwald together instead of going back to Munich in between.

Thank you, we didn't even have Banberg on our radar until a local from Germany told us it was better than Nuremberg. We're fine leaving it out. I also thought it might be better to stay in another night in GP with Mittenwald near there. Is all of this doable with trains? We contemplated driving but now I'm more worried with possible flooding damage.

Heads up: your June (???) travel dates are within Euro2024 tournament - so it will be hard and expensive to find and book accomodation in / around Munich.

Public transport are likely your best chance. use Deutsche Bahn journey planner.

her graduation from nursing school

Normally I would recommend the German Medical History Museum (DMM) in Ingolstadt but I am not sure if they have enough content in English. Maybe contact them if you think it can be of interest for you.

Don't take it out on my regard. Just saying you might be stretching yourself too far.

Bamberg is a UNESCO site that didn't get bombed out like Nuremberg. I was personally hyped to go for smoked beer and the brewery hikes. I pivoted from Wurzburg to Bamberg to talking myself out of Bamberg.

This is an alternate plan that was suggested:
Day 1 (June 23): Arrival and Initial Exploration

Arrive in Munich and settle into accommodation
Explore central Munich: Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, Viktualienmarkt
Day 2 (June 24): Nymphenburg Palace and Olympic Park

Visit Nymphenburg Palace
Explore the Olympic Stadium and Olympic Village
Option to visit the BMW Museum nearby
Day 3 (June 25): Paragliding in Tegernsee

Travel to Tegernsee for paragliding (weekday)
Return to Munich
Day 4 (June 26): Cloister Andechs and Ammersee

Excursion to Cloister Andechs on Ammersee
Enjoy the scenic views and local beer
Day 5 (June 27): Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Zugspitze

Travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Visit the peak of Zugspitze, explore halfway down
Visit Lake Eibsee
Day 6 (June 28): Mittenwald

Travel to Mittenwald from Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Explore the steel bridge cable trail, take the Karwendelbahn cable car up to the peak
Trail exploration and potential ridge walking (check if you need to bring harnesses for specific activities)
Return to Munich
Day 7 (June 29): Canyoning in Trockenbach near Kufstein

Half-day canyoning adventure in Trockenbach (weekday)
Return to Munich
Day 8 (June 30): Nuremberg

Travel to Nuremberg
Explore Nuremberg: Old Town, Nuremberg Castle, and other attractions
Day 9 (July 1): Adventure Day in or Around Munich

Choose from the following adventurous activities:
River Surfing on the Eisbach: Try urban surfing on the Eisbach River wave in the English Garden.
Cycling Tours: Take a scenic bike tour around Munich or to nearby lakes like Starnberger See.
Tree Climbing and Ropes Course: Visit a high ropes course or climbing park, such as Kletterwald Vaterstetten.
Hot Air Balloon Ride: Experience a hot air balloon ride over the Bavarian countryside.
Hiking in the Alps: If you're up for more hiking, consider a day trip to nearby mountains for additional trails.
Day 10 (July 2): Departure

Depart from Munich - the hotels in munich we were looking at were near Trudering - Riem

the hotels in Munich we were looking at were near Trudering - Riem.

If you're going to use Munich as a base AND take the train to Tegernesee/Nuremburg/Ammersee, you should stay near Munchen Hauptbahnhof because it looks like most of the trains for those places originate from that station. By staying in Trudering - Riem, you're adding another 40 minutes or so of train rides and transfers. For round trips, every minute counts.

Maybe consider Old Town or Maxvorstadt, both near the station.

FTR - We're staying in the neighborhood just west of Trudering - Riem but near Munchen Ostbahnhof. That train station will get us all around Munich (including Dachau and airport). But if we wanted to go where you're going, we too would have to pass through Haup.

Oh thank you. We selected the hotel based on our budget. Would it be more feasable for us to rent a car vs. taking trains everywhere? I prefer the ease of navigation of trains but could drive as well. Alternately, can you recommend a budget friendly hotel in the area of old town or closer to the main station?

If you drove instead, you could do a loop of Munich-Tegernsee-Kufstein-Mittenwald-GP-Munich. Maybe fit in Trockenbach on your way to Kufstein. Turn your car in when you get back to Munich and train to Nuremberg and Bamberg.

You'd probably want to spend your last day in the place you're departing from, so maybe bump up all these dates one day. Monday 24 in Tegernesee and Monday 1 is in Munich doing Munich things.

That said, the Munich Intl. airport is far north of city center, so coming from Nuremburg or Bamberg via train directly to the airport might be more viable. Just make sure to give yourself a lot of lead time getting to airport in case of delays.

Do you know about the Deutschland, or “D” ticket? This could be a major money saver on public transportation for you.

The D-ticket can be problematic for this traveler with the change of month in travel period. When not cancelled before June 10 the full July will automatically booked off - means in total 98 Euro per person. Can still be worth it - just as heads up.

Thanks for the D-ticket tip. We will look into.

I think we’re going to stay the first three nights in Munich near the HBF train station to be able to explore and maybe do a day trip to Tegernesee I heard you could paraglide over the lake but have not been able to get a hold of anyone to book as of yet.

Then the next two nights will be staying in Garmisch hiking and exploring Garmisch and Mittenwald.

Then the next three nights around Nuremberg/Bamberg.

The last night back to Munich for an early flight.

Thoughts?

That sounds far more manageable than your previous plans. And staying in Nuremberg a few nights gives you the option to make a day trip to Rothenberg if you so choose.

This Hotel offers stay with Paragliding at Lake Tegernsee

Perhaps you can vist Andechs first and go to Tegernsee in the evening stay for 2 nights do paragliding and continue to Garmisch along the Isar River next day from there ....an option your decision
