8 Day trip to Germany & Prague

We are planning an 8 day trip to Germany & Prague end of August this year. Our flights are already booked in & out of Berlin. Travelling with my husband, brother and 4-year old son. We are interested in architecture, museums and experiencing the local culture. We will be renting a car in Berlin and travelling by car thru' the trip so we have flexibility with my 4 year-old. Would love your advise, must-see places, restaurants, cafes, etc. or if we need to make changes to our itinerary. We want a kid-friendly paced trip.

Below is our proposed itinerary:
Day 1 Fly in to Berlin in afternoon, sightseeing / dinner, Berlin - overnight
Day 2 Berlin - sightseeing & overnight
Day 3 Leave early morning for Dresden, sightseeing in Dresden, 40 minute drive to Prague - overnight in Prague
Day 4 Sightseeing in Prague
Day 5 Morning in Prague. Leave after lunch for Munich, overnight in Munich
Day 6 Munich sightseeing, overnight in Munich
Day 7 Nuchweinstein castle (should we even go there?), romantic road, overnight in rothenburg ob der tauber
Day 8 Rothenberg, romantic road drive & stopping in a couple of places, drive to Berlin, overnight in Berlin
Day 9 Morning in Berlin, afternoon flight out

Would appreciate all your feedback.

P.S.: I love shopping (so if you have any favorite stores, please include that as well)

Thank you very much!

This is really a hilarious itinerary! You start and end your trip in Northern Germany, but travel all the way down to Southern Germany, and squeeze in Prague. In seven days you want to see six places, among them three where most people recommend to spend at least 3 to 5 days. This is your definition of a "kid-friendly paced trip"? And btw: at this pace you will not have the time to "experience the local culture", or to shop.

All I can say is: SLOW DOWN and, as Lubitsch said, drop half of your destinations. You don't need to travel all the way down to Southern Germany to see a fairytale castle or a medieval town for example, Berlin, Dresden and Prague offer them too (on day trips). Dresden is great as a base for day trips (to experience the local culture) or to see the world-class museums, but as a short stop for half a day between Berlin and Prague you can skip it.

My recommendation for 7 days:

If you want to see what Americans consider to be Germany:
Berlin + Munich (Neuschwanstein) + Rothenburg ob der Tauber

If you want to see Germany and explore the local culture at a relaxed pace:
Berlin + Harz mountains (Quedlinburg, Goslar or Wernigerode)
Berlin + Dresden (day trips to Saxon Switzerland with Königstein fortress, Meissen, Bautzen or Görlitz)

Berlin in depth:
Berlin + day trips to parks and gardens of Potsdam and the Spreewald

Real Germany:
Berlin + Baltic coast (medieval cities of the Hanseatic League + beaches)

Best of Central Europe:
Berlin and Prague
