7 switzerland, 3 alsace, 1 (german town???), flying out baden baden

Hi all!

My wife and I are traveling a week in the Switzerland (Lac Leman and Berner Oberland), then 3 days in the Alsace villages( Equisheim) , and flying out of Baden Baden Airport to Girona for a week. We love small towns but are not opposed to cities. I realize the Alsace villages are going to be a mix of France/ Germany but I would really like to experience a more strictly German town also if that exists between Alsace and the airport. My ideas for now are Gengenbach or Baden Baden, or if there are any other better recommendations. Thank you all!

Sorry, I'm of limited help to you, but you are going to two of my favorite European towns, Eguishseim and Girona! And probably Gimmelwald and Murren, too?!

You might look at Winningen on the Mosel close to Koblenz or Bacharach, Assmannshausen on the Rhine. I also liked Breisach on the Rhine.

Gengenbach is a gem, as is Staufen (a bit too far southeast?). Baden-Baden is much bigger and gets mixed reviews but I liked it - pleasant to stroll around town, up the hills and through the park on the south side to the village of Lichtental, where there was an outdoor market of sorts when we were there. Endingen, just east of the main group of Alsace villages, is little visited but has a nice core and feel to it.

Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg is a fabulous visit on the way up, and Mont Sainte-Odille monastery may be of interest to you.

Gengenbach is SO cute -- but a bit of a pain to get to for just one night.
