We will be in Munich (Sept 13) with my husband and his twin sister to celebrate their 50th birthday. I am seeking recommendations for something really special for dinner. Are there any castles with nice dinners? something off the beaten path? Or, if the atypical options aren't available, then please recommend some of the better restaurants (food, ambiance, value)? Thank you!
No castles in or in the immediate vicinity of Munich.
If you want the typical beer hall experience but with a more intimate atmosphere than the ever-rowdy Hofbräuhaus, try the Spatenhaus, right across from the opera.
By all means if you're looking for something special avoid the Hofbrauhaus. Service can be abysmal if you happen to get a bad server. It's also quite loud and at times can border on deafening.
No castles nearby to Munich for a dinner. We've been to Munich several times and had a very very nice dinner at a place in the Viktualienmarkt at Zum Alten Markt.
Just this past June we ventured to a new restaurant Preysinggarten which is just a short jaunt on the ubahn and a little walk from there. Fancy and expensive doesn't impress me. Mom & Pop local places with nice atmosphere, nice employees, good food is what I look for and that's exactly what Preysinggarten was. I would definitely recommend it.
