4 days in the Lake Konstanz /Bodensee area - suggestions please

Hi all,

I am planning to visit Lake Constance/Bodensee area from 16th to 20th Aug'21 along with my wife & 4 year old son. Not able to decide which town i should make it as base to travel around. I am also looking for accommodation away from crowd, town centers, looking for Gastehaus may be with a farm, animals so that my son can have good time. I have car, so can go around easily. Any Guidance/suggestions would be of great help.

Thank you,
Manju

I personally don’t know this farm stay home but I did a search of farm stays near Lindau on Bodensee and found this attractive working farm that has apartments for rent. We’ve spent a lot of time around Bodensee and with a four year old I think this area would be a good fit. Some of the other towns up the shore from Lindau have a lot of hills and may not be as 4 year old friendly. There are some casual, less touristed towns just a few miles up from Lindau that have nice swimming beaches too.

If you do drive around in this area be aware that you’ll need a tax sticker for driving on major roads as you cross into Austria. Stickers can be purchased at the border.

This is the website where I found the above farm. https://www.farm-holidays.com/. If you search by region, Lindau shows up on the Bavaria listings, a very small part of the Bodensee shoreline. If you search Baden-Württemberg you will find the rest of the towns and rural areas along the eastern shore of Bodensee.

There are other websites for farm stays so keep looking if you don’t find something on the linked website.

I can't recommend a farm stay close to the lake but these might help, here and here
If using Mona's link, look for accommodations in the Westallgäu, the region closest to the lake. The Allgäu is a pretty area in its own right.

We once stayed in the lower part of Meersburg for a short time. On certain days you can catch a brunch or evening dinner cruise, if that appeals to you. Hagnau, the next village over, is quieter and has some winery stays up in the hills.

There's a monkey forest not far from Meersburg: https://www.affenberg-salem.de/
A few more things to do with children: https://www.bodensee.eu/en/what-to-do/lake-constance-highlights/families If you can afford to splash out a bit (I can't), there are infrequent Zeppelin flights from Friedrichshafen.

Meersburg, Lindau and Uberlingen are all worth a visit, as are Salem Monastery and Palace. I really liked my visit to Insel Mainau. Bodensee tourism: https://www.bodensee.eu/en

Gosh it's been a long time. I think if you can find an apartment/hotel just west of Meersburg on higher ground with a lake view you will be happy. Close to ferry too. High season might be impossible to find... Have a good trip and enjoy. You might consider a little farther away with a car like Heiligenberg.

Thank you Gundersen & mchpp for the info, i could find a small apartment in Friedrichshafen. Most of the farm stays are already booked.

We found the zeppelin museum in Friedrichshafen very interesting.
And we enjoyed the botanical garden on Insel Mainau too.

You should ensure that your booking is fully refundable in case of cancellation close to check-in date.

I strongly recommend the beautiful Grand Hotel Bad Schachen near Lindau. Beautiful grand old hotel on the lake. It is 20mn by foot from Lindau which is itself kinda cute.
