3 nights in Munich in December

Hello!

My husband and I will spend 3 full days/3 nights in Munich mid-December. We are coming from Switzerland. TBD on where exactly, we are flying into Zurich and will stay in this area for 2 full days/ 2 nights.

I want to preface this by saying we know this will be a fast paced trip, and we’re totally fine with that, i just want to make sure it’s doable. Also, I have been to this area, but my husband hasn’t.

We like good food, wine, beautiful sights. My husband loves Christmas so some place that has that feel. Would want to visit some Christmas markets, but not something we’d spend our entire trip on. We’re not into skiing, so likely wouldn’t want to do that. We’re 27/28 for context.

We are thinking we will stay based in Munich because we are flying out from here. We are thinking of spending one day in Munich, and taking day trips for the other 2 days. I’m pretty set on Salzburg being one of those (I’ve been and absolutely loved it, husband has not been).

My husband would love to see Neuschwanstein (I’ve been), but I realize it’s a bit far and might be hard for a day trip. So any recommendations how how to make this work or other day trips would be great.

Any recommendations for activities/ restaurants in these different locations would be so helpful. Also, I know this is a Germany thread, but if you have any suggestions for Switzerland, that would be great.

This trip was somewhat last minute, so any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks!

What are you exact dates? Are you returning prior to Dec 24th?

It takes about an hour 45 minutes to Salzburg by regional train (Bayern-Ticket) vs 2½ hours by train and bus to the Hohenschwangau bus stop (also with a Bayern-Ticket), so time should not be a deterrent for going to Neuschwanstein.
