First day will be somewhat recovery day, but we have 3 full days/nights in Landshut before we have a week on the Danube. Any suggestions- we won't have a car, but are willing to take the train, etc. Thanks to this amazing community in advance!
Landshut itself has a lot to offer, but is also a good starting point for train trips. I like all the little towns around Landshut like Dingolfing, Landau an der Isar or Deggendorf.
What I always find quite enchanting is Weltenburg Abbey. There's no direct bus or train, but the monastery suggests train to Abensberg and arranging a taxi from the train station. And not to forget a boat trip to the Danube Gorge. Afterwards a cold beer in the abbey's beer garden.
And if you're in Abensberg anyway, you absolutely have to visit the 'Brauerei zum Kuchlbauer' and the Kuchlbauer tower. The brewery's owner has a soft spot for Friedensreich Hundertwasser - so cool.
The area around Abendsberg and Schrobenhausen is Bavarian asparagus country - especially white asparagus. A very big deal during the season (April–June).
What I also always liked was the old town of Ingolstadt and of course the Audi Museum.
Then there's the 'Hall of Liberation' in Kehlheim. Personally, I don't find that all that exciting.
Surely there are many more ideas that I haven't thought of right now. Happy travels.
Spending 3 nights in Landshut without a car—any tips? First day will be a recovery day, but we’ll have 2 full days to explore. Open to short train trips too. Thanks in advance!
See the Castle above the city and the Park (Hofgarten)

Sounds like a great trip! Landshut is a beautiful town to explore on foot—start with a relaxed stroll through the old town, visit St. Martin’s Church, and check out Trausnitz Castle for amazing Njmcdirect views. Since you’ve got three days, consider a day trip to Regensburg or Passau by train—both are scenic, historic, and very train-accessible. If you're into nature, the Isar River paths are perfect for a peaceful walk or picnic. Enjoy your time before heading to the Danube—sounds like an awesome adventure ahead!
