3 days in between cities...

I have August 19, 20, 21 to plan... It's a Friday - Sunday and would love your travel insights!
I will be departing Amsterdam on the 19th
plan to arrive in Strobl, Austria the 21st - 26th
then Munich for 5 days.

I like to stay put for a few days and do day trips... but with that said I've found a gap in my plan that will need to include travel time.
Given my limited time and areas already on the schedule... what would you suggest?

I am traveling with my 16 year old son~
I may be able to add an extra day on the front end of this...

We traveled south out of Amsterdam a couple of times stopping in Munich--one time ending in Venice and the other time in Vienna.
I'd suggest spending one day in Cologne, Germany if just to see the incredible Duomo there. Then you could take a train up the Rhine River through Koblenz to Bacharach where you could spend the night. Bavaria Ben covers southern Germany on his website very well--about accommodations, etc.
Strobl, Austria is a very beautiful place on the lakes east of Salzburg. You should really enjoy being there.

Thanks David, I hadn't considered following the Rhine... I wonder if there are short cruises? It may be fun to see the area from the river!

What about an outdoor activity, something crazy like… ziplining? I'm pretty sure your son vote yes.

That zipline is at Rappbodetalsperre in the Harz mountains in Northern Germany.

A great place for hiking, too.

And nostalgia steam trains. Has 6 steam trains from Wernigerode to Brocken summit each day.

And of course the unavoidable medival towns.
