3 days around Frankfurt

Hello everybody!

I am going to Frankfurt, Germany on a business trip in early December (in a week). I will have 3 days/4 nights on Dec. 6-9 to myself to explore the area. My flight will be leaving back to Canada on the morning of Dec. 10, but I can get to FIA quite early in the morning, so we're talking about 3 full days.

So, what would you recommend for those days? My list so far has the following destinations: 1. Heidelberg, 2. Mainz, 3. Bacharach, 4. Worms. It's all doable, I guess, but I don't like such quick rush through different sites, and would prefer to explore just one or (maximum) two places as thoroughly as possible.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

I don't see Frankfurt(M) on your list anywhere. Lots to see and do.

I also don't see anywhere on the Fachwerkstrasse. It would be a shame to miss out on such beautiful places. The castle at Braunfels, the tower at Idstein, the walls at Buedingen.

Budingen was one of my favorite towns in Germany, less than an hour from Frankfurt by train. You need to spend at least one full day (maybe more) in Frankfurt itself as there is much to see there and the Christmas markets will be in full swing. If you have any interest in that sort of thing you need to explore at least 2 of them. Heidelberg or Mainz are both easy day trips from Frankfurt and also have Christmas markets going on and old towns to explore. So many options it will be hard to decide.

These are the Christmas markets that are happening in Frankfurt and surrounding towns. Have you checked the dates for the Bacharach market? If you base in Frankfurt, you can easily get to all of these markets by train, except for Esslingen which is by Stuttgart. Worms is nice if you are interested in the Jewish history in Germany or in Martin Luther. Otherwise, I would visit some other towns.
