2023 Düsseldorf

I have read the very small number of entries for Düsseldorf. I will be traveling to the city to meet up with a friend living there in August. I would like to arrive ready to see the culture and do not want to depend only on Köln [Cologne].

Therefore my question is, Are there some Through the Back Door places that I should pay attention to when visiting around Düsseldorf? I appreciate any assistance you might offer. Thank you in advance.

Have you already noted Monschau and Wuppertal? Aachen?

Do not underestimate Cologne: Many posts incorrectly say the only thing you need to see is the Dom! Cologne is also special because so much of it is walkable from the HBF.

I think Düsseldorf has a lot to offer. I like it a lot more than Cologne (despite the dome of course).
Maybe as well because of Düsseldorfs's large Japanese community and their excellent Sushi :-)

In any case I would recommend to visit 'Zeche Zollverein UNESCO sight' in Essen (Ruhr Area/Ruhrgebiet) north of Düsseldorf:

Do not forget to eat a 'Currywurst'. It is THE sausage in the Ruhrgebiet - a former industrial area for steel and coal.
