2 Questions, Dachau and Neuschwanstein Castle

Do you buy a Bayern ticket to travel from Munich to the Dachau Concentration Memorial site? I am slightly confused as to what tickets to purchase. And how far in advance do you need to buy tickets for the 2 castles in Fussen? I am planning on going in mid-August. Thank you.

Dachau is a suburb of Munich, in what is called the MVV - Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund. An MVV ticket to Dachau would be far less expensive than a Bayern-Ticket.

Which ticket to buy depands on several things, the number of people traveling and other trips you might take that day.

The trip from downtown Munich would usually entail a leg by S-Bahn from the Hbf, or Marienplatz, or somewhere else in downtown to Dachau Bahnhof and a trip by #635 bus from there to the Memorial.

The one way fare for one person from downtown Munich is 5,80€. So round trip from the downtown to Dachau Memorial using single trip tickets would cost 11,60€ per person, 23,20€ for two. Actually, the fare from anywhere in the downtown, M, zone to Dachau will be the same price, but you should specify the starting station when purchasing the ticket.

MVV also sells day-ticket, which give you unlimited rides in the fare zones selected. Since a single person day ticket between the M zone and the Memorial would cost only 10,50€ and give you not only the round trip, but any other travel in the two zones for the rest of the day, that is a better way to go. A day ticket for two people costs 17,80 (versus 23,20 for two single tickets). A day ticket for 3-5 people is just that much better.

If you are already planning some travel in the central, M, zone and would be buying a one person day ticket for the central zone, anyway, for 9,20€, adding travel to Dachau is only 1,30€ more.

To get to Dachau Memorial from central Munich you take the S2 line and then a bus transfer. Very easy!

And less expensive with MVV day tickets than with a Bayern-Ticket.

As far as the tickets for the two castles in Fussen, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, you can get them now. I will be visiting there in September, and purchased the tickets, last week. Go to their website and you can buy them online.
