Any suggestions as to day trips from Stuttgart or sites to see in the city? We'll be there in early July. We aren't interested in the automobile factories.

Esslingen am Neckar has a very nice collection of old buildings and narrow streets. We were there for the Christmas Market; so, we did not focus on the sights but still I think it would be a useful bit of time.

Here's some ideas:
The Schloss at Ludwigsburg.
Burg Hohenzollern near Hechingen.
The university town of Tubbingen.
Schwabische Hall
The Neckar River Valley between Bad Wimpfen and Heidelberg.

Thanks - these locations should work well. Our exchange student is now studying in Tubingen so that will be a trip for sure.

Another castle: Schloss Lichtenstein (not the ministate Liechtenstein), some 30km south-east of Tübingen.
