Scored a great price on a flight for a trip to the South of France for Thanksgiving week, but it includes a 13 hour layover in Frankfurt on the return trip, arriving in the evening and leaving late the next morning. Anyone with any advice on where to stay and what to do in that short time?
In the the time you have it should be interesting enough to stay near the central train station that goes direct to and from the airport and just walk the streets and see the restored old town not unless you have any other interests that you can pursue in the evening.
What time do you arrive? There are many sites to see that are just good at night as in the daytime. Places like the Alter Oper, the Kaiserdom, the Römerberg, the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Wall, and the view from the Eisener Steg Bridge at night is fabulous. The Main Tower is open at night time too, the lateness depends on if it is a weekend or weekday. Depending on the day of the week, some museums are open late, until 20:00.
A nice central hotel is the Hotel Mirimar, or if you want to spend a bit more money, Flemings City Deluxe, Intercontinental, the Hilton, or Adina Apts.
Lots of places to eat downtown, and if you are there on a Thurs. evening, the Farmers Market at the Konstablerwache is open until 20:00. Sadly, the Klein Markt Halle closes at 18:00, but opens in the morning at 08:00 if you want to see that before you go back to the airport.
