Hi Rick,
I want to go from 19-29 of August 2026 and visit Bavaria region. what should I use as Base? Flying from Amsterdam to the Bavaria region.
I will be using trains and solo traveler. I could fly from Munich or Vienna to Chicago at the end.
Please Help. :)

If you are visiting the "Bavaria" region, you should fly back from Munich. Vienna is not "in" Bavaria.

A simplistic first response is to center around Nuremberg to cover the northern half and then Munich for the southern half. You can also take the Romantic road from north to south, starting in Wurzburg and ending in Fussen. To get outside of Bavaria, venture a little east to Salzburg and Hallstatt or a little west to Stuttgart or Frankfurt. Fly from Munich as it's direct to ORD.
To help those who will read this, what to you like to do, see, eat, and drink? Planning on public transport the whole time?

Thank you very much. Yes, I will be using public transportation. I am not a foodie, but I like to experience the culture, so always try local delicacy's or the popular local food. Moderate hiking, exploring and scenaries are what makes my day. I am solo, so don't hike much in the new place but love to if I can connect with a group. I really appreciate your help.
