Hello Rick Steves community,
I’m hoping to get some advice on whether this itinerary is realistic for a family of four (two adults and two children).
In March 2027. We will have a car rental, 10 full vacation days plus 2 travel days and are considering the following route:
- Berlin
- Leipzig
- Dresden
- Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
- Tropical Islands Resort near Berlin, before flying home
The idea is to combine major sights with some unique experiences for the kids: Berlin’s history and museums, Dresden’s architecture and Saxon Switzerland, a Czech spa town experience, and finishing with Tropical Islands as a fun family ending.
A few questions:
- Is this too ambitious for 10 full days, or does the route flow well enough?
- Would you skip Leipzig or Karlovy Vary to slow the pace down?
- Are there any “don’t miss” small towns, nature stops, or hidden gems between these destinations that would work well with children?
We enjoy a mix of history, scenery, good food, and experiences rather than trying to check off every museum.
Thanks very much for any advice! Amy
