I'm traveling from the US to Spain this July and my first stop in Europe is Frankfurt. I have 1 hour to get through immigration and catch my next flight to Madrid. Is this enough time?

Is this a through booking (one ticket)?
If yes, then you are OK, the airline would not have let you book it if it wasn't possible. Your luggage will be transferred automatically to your second flight; and, if your flight to Frankfurt is late it is the airline's responsibility to get you to Madrid, on a later flight if necessary.
If no, if you have booked this yourself as two separate tickets, you are in trouble. You would have to in this case collect your bags, go through immigration and then check in for the Madrid flight, handing your bags in again. No way you can do this in one hour.
